Zero Waste Initiative

Conventions and trade shows are known to typically produce large volumes of waste. Our goal with the “Zero Waste” initiative is to reduce the waste our conference will produce and essentially divert it from the landfill through more intensive recycling and conservative use of show materials.  Together at APPrO 2008, with our inaugural Zero Waste initiative, we were able to improve our environment through recycling and conserving 98.2% of the materials collected from the event.

The recycling of waste materials saves trees, fuel, water, and energy, as well as reducing landfill space.  Studies have shown that landfill sites are full of materials that could have been recycled or reused. The Zero Waste initiative, in conjunction with the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, endeavours to capture virtually all of these valuable “resources” and find a recycling market for them or ensures that there are less waste materials to recycle.

With the growing concerns of global warming, APPrO 2009 recognizes an obligation to do our part towards making a smaller footprint on the environment.  The end result is a win-win for the environment and for ourselves and our families.

We trust that our Delegates, Sponsors and Exhibitors are in agreement and hope that we can continue to work together at APPrO 2009 to maintain the Zero Waste initiative "top of mind" and push beyond our already excellent efforts from last year.  For more details on the role we will all play in this initiative, please click here to view a downloadable pdf.
