Chris Bentley Minister of Energy Chris Bentley was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003, 2007 and 2011. On October 20, 2011, Bentley was appointed Minister of Energy. He has previously served as Attorney General, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities and Minister of Labour. Bentley is a lawyer who practiced criminal and labour law for almost 25 years. For 10 of those years he also taught part-time at the University of Western Ontario Law School, where he helped to establish the Law School Careers Office. Active in the London community, Bentley was the first chairperson and an organizing committee member of Neighbourhood Legal Services London and Middlesex, a legal clinic established in London to assist low-income clients. Bentley attended the University of Western Ontario and received his law degree from the University of Toronto Law School in 1979. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1981 and later obtained a masters-level degree from Cambridge University in England. Bentley’s home is in London. He and his wife, Wendy, have two daughters. An avid runner, he is a regular participant in charity runs. He has run three Boston marathons. |

Colin Andersen CEO, Ontario Power Authority Colin Andersen was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) in September 2008. Prior to joining the OPA, Mr. Andersen held a variety of senior financial and policy positions in the Ontario Public Service, playing a lead role in asset management, infrastructure investments and intergovernmental negotiations. Most recently, he was Deputy Minister, Ontario Ministry of Finance; Secretary of Treasury Board; Deputy Minister, Ontario Ministry of Revenue; Chair of the Ontario Financing Authority and Chair of the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation. Mr. Andersen has a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Toronto and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary. The OPA is responsible for ensuring a reliable, long-term supply of electricity for Ontario, focusing on promoting conservation, planning for the long term, and procuring generation resources. |

John Beck Founder, Chairman & CEO, Aecon Group Inc. John M. Beck is founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Aecon Group Inc. He has over 45 years of engineering, construction and project management experience across Canada and internationally. Born in Algiers in 1941, John Beck holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Montreal’s McGill University. He lives in Toronto with his wife, noted business author Diane Francis. Mr. Beck began his career in 1963 when he joined his family’s business, Prefac Concrete, which manufactured pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete. In 1971, he led the effort to take the company public, and embarked on a strategy of mergers and acquisitions as well as rapid organic and geographic growth. In 2001, the company was renamed as Aecon Group Inc. Aecon (TSX:ARE) is one of Canada’s largest and most diverse construction and infrastructure development companies, and is a leader in providing services to both public and private sector clients. Over the years, Aecon’s team of engineers and construction managers have been involved in building such landmarks as Toronto’s CN Tower, International airports in Toronto, Montreal, Quito, Budapest and Prague, as well as roads, hospitals, universities, embassies, industrial plants, oil sands facilities, mine sites, nuclear power plants and seaway infrastructure across Canada. Mr. Beck and Aecon are innovators in the area of public-private partnerships and design-build-finance initiatives. Aecon led the design and construction of the $1 billion Highway 407 ETR near Toronto, the world’s first open access, all electronic toll highway, as well as the $1.5 billion Cross Israel Highway, the world’s most technically advanced all electronic highway. All told, Mr. Beck and Aecon have successfully completed projects in more than a dozen countries, including significant ones in the United States. In November 2008, Mr. Beck was cited by The Financial Post Magazine as one of the top 20 most accomplished CEOs in Canada. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Financing Authority, and a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives. He was previously Chairman of the Board of the Ontario Power Authority, a government agency with responsibility for planning and procuring all of the province’s power needs. In recognition of his distinguished achievements and career-long service to the engineering profession, Mr. Beck was recently inducted as a Fellow into the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE). He has also served on a number of non-profit boards involved in charities, health, education and the arts. Mr. Beck is fluent in English and French. |

Ernest W. Belyea Partner, Bennett Jones Ernie Belyea is recognized as one of the leading Energy-Corporate lawyers in Canada. He practises primarily in the energy/electricity area in the structuring, financing, development, and acquisition of independent power projects and electrical utilities. Ernie acts for developers of power projects powered by conventional and renewable fuels. Before joining Bennett Jones in May of 2008, Ernie was Senior Corporate Counsel of the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). While at the OPA, Ernie was responsible for managing the legal issues arising with most of the OPA’s major initiatives including: power procurements (GTA West, CHP I, Portlands, Northern York Region, CHP II, RES II and proposed CHP III), demand response programs (York DR, the DR Programs 1, 2 and 3), Electricity sector development initiatives (including the 2 power auctions in 2006 of, in the aggregate, approximately $1 billion in electricity products), LSE initiatives, recent pilot Heat Rate Contracts and numerous conservation and demand management program delivery contracts including, without limitation, the LDC CDM Master agreement and schedules, BOMA initiatives and independent initiatives with municipalities and local distribution companies. Ernie was part of the OPA design team and was responsible for the drafting of the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP) Rules and the Standard Offer Contract, the initial proposal for the Clean Energy Standard Offer Program, the Program Rules for the northern hydro initiative, and the draft contract for the renewables from waste program. He was Senior Corporate Counsel of the OPA from 2006 to 2008. Ernie is an active member of the OEA, APPrO, OEN, CANWEA, CANSIA, OWA and OSEA, of which he is a director. He was an alternate member of CANWEA’s steering committee to analyze and respond to the OPA’s Feed-In-Tariff Program and currently is a member of the OEA’s Energy Markets Committee and the OEA’s Green Energy and Conservation Committee. David Butters President, APPrO David Butters is President of APPrO. He comes to APPrO from Hill & Knowlton in Toronto, where he was Vice President, Public Affairs, and Director of their Canadian Energy Asset Group. He has been active in the sector as Secretariat to the Stakeholders Alliance for Competition and Customer Choice. His professional background also includes work for Bruce Power, TransAlta, AECL, Fortis, Toronto Hydro, the Association of Major Power Consumers in Ontario, and as Chief of Staff to a federal cabinet minister. Mr. Butters also has an extensive background in advertising and marketing communications. |

Bruce Campbell IESO - Vice President - Resource Integration Bruce Campbell has over 30 years of regulatory and executive experience in the energy sector. Recruited from a successful legal career, where he regularly appeared before the Ontario Energy Board and other tribunals, Mr. Campbell joined the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) as Vice President, Regulatory and Legal Affairs in 2000. Since that time Mr. Campbell has taken on an increasingly wide range of executive responsibilities, currently holding the position of Vice President – Resource Integration. In addition, Mr. Campbell serves as a Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors and member of the Audit Committee of the Northeast Power Coordinating Council, Inc., responsible for establishing and enforcing reliability standards for the power industry across eastern Canada and the northeastern U.S. A member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Mr. Campbell also holds the Institute of Corporate Directors’ ICD.D (Certified Director) designation. Robert Cary Consultant Robert Cary has been an active participant in the development and evolution of the Ontario electricity market, providing independent advice and consulting services to Ontario generators and to the OPA.
Consulting services had an early focus on Ontario market rules development and on the commercial and operational aspects of gas fired generation. Core business continues to focus on the interactions between OPA contracts and market operations. Services have included negotiation of contracts for gas-fired, hydroelectric and biomass facilities as well as advice on the design of FIT, HCI and CESOP programs.
Rob currently advises and represents wind generators holding RES I & RES II contracts in the IESO’s process for integration of renewable generation.
Rob was also a key contributor to market design in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, an MBA, and a Professional Engineer.

Adam Chamberlain Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP Adam Chamberlain is a member of BLG's Environmental and Energy practices. He is also the National Leader of the Firm's Climate Change Group and the Toronto Regional Leader of the Forestry Law Group. Adam's practice encompasses a wide range of matters that are generally related to the environmental regulatory requirements related to the development and bringing on stream of infrastructure. He provides advice to clients ranging from private power developers to the Ontario Power Authority. Adam was very involved in the development of electricity regulation early in the legislative process following the publication of the White Paper on electricity in Ontario in the 1990's and has acted in this area for several municipal utilities since then. Adam's other work in the electricity sector has ranged from advice to utilities (public and private), to project development and management, to assisting in leading negotiations in large infrastructure projects (this has involved a variety of energy, waste and energy from waste projects). His work in the electricity sector has included assisting a not-for-profit transmission utility that resulted in the electrification of several off-grid communities in northern Ontario and a private electricity transmission utility in its efforts to construct an international merchant electricity transmission line between Ontario and the United States. Adam assisted in the drafting of several elements of the Ontario Electricity Market Rules prior to their initial introduction. |

Jason Chee-Aloy Managing Director (Canada), Power Advisory LLC Jason is the head of Power Advisory LLC’s Canadian practice. Power Advisory LLC is a leading consulting firm specializing in electricity market analysis, business strategy, generation and transmission procurement, policy development, regulatory and litigation support, market design and project feasibility assessment. Practical solutions are based on an understanding of fundamental economic drivers as shaped by market structures, regulatory framework and market behaviour. While at the Ontario Power Authority, Jason was responsible for procuring electricity generation through direct negotiations, standard offer programs and competitive processes. Under Jason’s leadership, the Ontario Power Authority procured over 13,000 MW of generation, representing an approximate value of over $23 billion. Most recently, Jason's main focus was leading the development, consultation and implementation of North America’s first comprehensive Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff Program including delivery of program rules, contracts and pricing. This Program successfully launched on October 1, 2009 resulting in over 15,000 applications totaling over 10,000 MW. In December 2009, Jason received the Canadian Solar Industries Association’s 2009 Solar Industry Leader of the Year award. Prior to joining the Ontario Power Authority, Jason worked for Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator where he was closely involved with restructuring Ontario’s electricity sector by leading key areas of market design. Jason has also worked as an Energy Economist in the public and private sectors, analysing competitive electricity and natural gas markets. |

Frank Chiarotto Sr. VP, Hydro-Thermal Operations, Ontario Power Generation Frank Chiarotto is the Senior Vice President, Hydro – Thermal Operations at Ontario Power Generation. He was appointed to this position in January 2012. Currently, Frank is responsible for the operation of OPG’s five thermal plants and 65 hydroelectric generating stations and 231 water control dams located on 24 rivers systems across Ontario. In addition, Frank heads up both the hydro and thermal generation development projects groups which include, overseeing such initiatives as the Niagara Tunnel Project, the Lower Mattagami River Project extensions as well as the potential natural gas and biomass fuel conversion of some of OPG’s existing coal-fired stations to allow for their continued operation. Beginning his career at Ontario Hydro in 1974 in the Thermal Generation Division, Frank has held numerous positions in the organization working in both technical services and programming functions and plant operations. He has progressively moved through more senior managerial and executive positions at Head Office in Toronto and at the generating stations around the province. Frank's wide ranging experience includes Station Manager of Atikokan GS (1991), Plant Manager at both Lambton GS (1997 to 2007) and Nanticoke GS (2007-2008) and most recently, Senior Vice President – Thermal. Under his leadership, OPG’s thermal assets saw a considerable improvement in plant reliability and safety performance with many plants achieving significant safety and production milestones. Frank also led an extensive effort to adjust plant investment and maintenance programs to respond to a changing regulatory and business environment and operating regime. Frank represents OPG’s interest on two joint venture combined cycle gas fired facilities (Portlands Energy Centre and Brighton Beach Plant), and currently holds the position of President on the Boards of both plants. During his tenure at Nanticoke as the Plant Manager, Frank initiated, and is a founding member of the Nanticoke Industrial Training Centre (NITC). While at Lambton GS, Frank represented OPG on the Boards of Sarnia Lambton Environmental Association as well as the Industrial Education Council, holding the position of President of both boards over the ten year period. Born in Italy and raised in Alberta and Ontario, Frank attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with honours in Chemical Engineering. He has subsequently attended Queens University and the University of Western Ontario Richard Ivey Schools of Business Programs as well as the University of Windsor. Frank currently sits on the Villa Charities Inc. Board of Governors as a voluntary board member. |

Sean Conway Queens University, and Public Policy Advisor, Gowlings Sean Conway is a public policy adviser in Gowlings' Toronto office, working with clients in the energy and natural resources sector. With his extensive experience in the public sector, Sean is available to advise Gowlings’ clients on a broad range of business and public policy issues. Before joining Gowlings, Sean served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for 28 years, from 1975 to 2003. He served in the cabinet of Premier David Peterson (1985-90), holding the positions of Minister of Education, Minister of Colleges and Universities, Minister of Mines and Government House Leader. He is a former energy critic for the Official Opposition and served on two Ontario Select Committees on Nuclear Affairs as well as serving on several legislative committees examining health care and constitutional reform. Sean acted as vice-principal (advancement) of Queen’s University from January 1 to December 31, 2009. He was also the special adviser for external relations to the Principal of Queen’s University from August 2006 until October 2010. Mike Crawley President, GDF Suez Canada (International Power Canada) Since 2002, Mike Crawley has overseen International Power Canada Inc.’s growth into a leading developer of wind power projects across four provinces in Canada. International Power Canada has financed and constructed projects in conjunction with the Ontario RES, Standard Offer and FIT procurement processes. Since February 2011, when International Power and GDF SUEZ Energy International combined to form the world’s largest independent power producer, International Power Canada’s portfolio has expanded to include the operation of seven wind farms totaling 363 MW in the Maritimes and Ontario. The company has another 307 MW of wind and solar generation projects under construction in Ontario and British Columbia. Crawley has served on the Ontario Government's Electricity Conservation and Supply Task Force and was a co-chair of the Renewable Energy Task Team. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario and Clean Energy BC. Crawley has been a recipient of the Association of Power Producers Hedley Palmer Award for Leadership in the Ontario Power Sector. International Power Canada is part of the international energy group, GDF SUEZ, which operates more than 117,000 MW of generation in its global portfolio. GDF SUEZ employs 218,900 people in nearly 70 countries and achieved revenues of €90.7 billion in 2011. |

Shawn Cronkwright Ontario Power Authority, Director, Renewables Procurement Shawn is the Director, Renewables Procurement, in the Electricity Resources group of the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). In this role, he is responsible for all procurement activities related to renewable generation resources, including the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) and microFIT programs. His previous roles at the OPA included managing the competitive procurement processes for new natural gas-fired facilities in the northern York region and southwest greater Toronto area (GTA), combined heat and power facilities, and biomass-fired combined heat and power. Prior to joining the OPA, Shawn worked for Siemens Power Generation where he spent seven years in progressive field service and project management roles at generation facilities throughout Canada, the United States, and Asia. Shawn’s experience includes gas and steam turbine maintenance, balance of plant, as well as nuclear refurbishment outage planning. Shawn is a professional engineer and project manager with over 12 years’ experience in various roles in both the private and public sectors. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen’s University in Kingston and holds the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. |

Isadore Day Chief, Serpent River First Nation Isadore Day, Wiindawtegowinini is the elected Chief of Serpent River First Nation. The community is located in the North Channel of Lake Huron. Serpent River First Nation is signatory to the 1836 Bond Head Treaty and the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850. Up until the 1990’s the lands were pristine and untouched by big industries; mining had affected the territory in the 1950’s. The wage economy is relatively recent to the Anishinabek of Serpent River; touching down at the turn of the turn of the 19th century with the fur and forest industry. Born in Elliot Lake and raised in the North, Chief Isadore Day worked in the in construction, commercial fishing, and in the social services setting, until his political career began 10 years ago. Chief Day has eight years of post-secondary education in Social Work, Business and Public Administration and Governance. This combination helped prepare him for the multi-jurisdictional dynamics of First Nation governance. He values strong teachings and ideals that re embodied in the Anishinabek Culture and Heritage. One of his aspirations is to always seek ways to combine these teachings with contemporary mainstream ideals and traditional insights and teachings. The Serpent River First Nation has undergone transformational change with Chief Day as part of the leadership team over the last decade. Fiscal stability, Economic Investment, Health and Social Policy Framework development, stronger and more reliable Infrastructure, these are some of the targets in his mandate as Chief he has targeted. Much achievement made to date built on the premise of hard work and advocacy and incremental change. Currently, the First Nation is conducting a Community Comprehensive Planning exercise that focuses on a multi-sector approach seeking to achieve self-government goals for the next generation to inherit. Energy Policy, Planning, and Priority Projects have been a part of this focus. Chief Day’s community is a founding First Nation of the Lake Huron Anishinabek Transmission Company. The community also has a transmission easement traversing the community that was negotiated in the 1950’s and also has a micro-generating system that has been in operation for the past 15-years. With an extensive list of energy sector involvements over the last 7 years, two that stick out in Chief Day’s experience. An exchange with President Bill Clinton in the Ontario Economic Summit in 2007, where Bill Clinton explicitly said that First Nations and Tribes confirmed the Chief’s belief that they ought to be owners and operators of major energy projects in their territories; and the other; Chief Day agreed to help carry the Ontario Green Energy and Economy Act into the Ontario Legislature with Premier Dalton McGuinty and then Energy Minister George Smitherman. |

Elisabeth (Lisa) DeMarco Partner, Norton Rose Lisa DeMarco is recognized as a Canadian expert, and has over 15 years of experience in the law relating to emissions trading, the Kyoto Protocol and the evolving area of environmental finance. She represents several leading energy clients in a wide variety of natural gas and electricity matters before regulatory agencies and the Ontario Energy Board. She also assists leading Canadian and international mining and energy companies on domestic and overseas power project development, renewable power projects, alternative fuel projects, corporate social responsibility, environmental disclosure and business strategy. Ms. DeMarco is one of the leading carbon transaction lawyers in the international market, having worked for investment banks and energy companies on deals and projects in India, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Argentina, Chile, Ireland, Africa, Mexico, China and Russia. She plays an ongoing and active role in the development of energy and GHG emissions policy and law throughout Canada and in various countries around the world. She was appointed to the Premier’s Climate Change Advisory Panel, which provides advice on climate change strategies and policies, as well as scientific and economic research to the premier of Ontario. Ms. DeMarco successfully completed the admission exams for the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales in 2011. Ms. DeMarco is also involved in legal education and training. |

Doris Dumais Director of the Approvals Program, Ontario Ministry of the Environment With an education focused on Biology and Environmental Studies, it was only natural for Doris to join the Ministry of the Environment. Having been with the Ministry for over 25 years, she has had the opportunity to work in a variety of positions, in different regions of the province and different divisions and program areas within the ministry. She has worked as an Environmental Officer in the field monitoring compliance with environmental requirements, in an Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office as a Technical Advisor and a Divisional Planning Coordinator, before moving on to become the Manager of Training, Development and Certification. Following her days in Human Resources Branch, Doris has held a number of senior management positions with the Environmental SWAT Team, Central Region, West Central Region, the Drinking Water Management Division and with the Approvals Program. Currently she is the Director of the Environmental Approvals Access and Service Integration Branch, leading the transformation of the ministry’s approvals program. Her most recent efforts at transformation have been in developing and introducing a new approval approach for renewable energy projects. Throughout her career she has had the opportunity to work on some interesting initiatives such as the development of the ministry’s first Human Resources Plan, the creation of the Environmental SWAT team, the design and establishment of the ministry’s Drinking Water Management Division, the introduction of Risk Based Inspection Programs, and now the transformation of the ministry’s Approvals Program, all while working on environmental compliance programs and projects. |

Colin Edwards Senior Developer, Pattern Energy Colin Edwards has been a Senior Developer at Pattern since the company’s formation in 2009 and established the Toronto office where he now leads Pattern’s Canadian development activities. Colin has been responsible for negotiating and implementing the joint venture agreement with Samsung which provides for the development of 1,200 MW of wind projects in Ontario in connection with Samsung’s Green Energy Investment Agreement with the Province of Ontario. |

Darren Finkbeiner Manager, Market Development, IESO Darren Finkbeiner is the Manager of Market Development and is responsible for the Market Evolution department at the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). In his current role Mr. Finkbeiner is responsible for the IESO Market Evolution program and the development of the Market Rules that govern the IESO administered markets. Currently, one of Mr. Finkbeiner’s lead responsibilities is to ensure the reliable and efficient integration of Ontario’s significant investments in variable renewable generation. He is also the IESO’s representative on the IESO Technical Panel, the body which recommends rule changes for the evolution of the IESO Administered markets. Mr. Finkbeiner joined Ontario Hydro/ the IESO in 1987. He has held positions as a NERC certified Power System Operator as well as managing roles in market and system analysis, change management, operational readiness and market entry. He has been closely involved with the restructuring and evolution of the Ontario electricity market. |

Shane has been a Corporate, Commercial and Regulatory lawyer throughout his career and has been actively involved in energy issues in Ontario, Alberta and Northern Canada. He is the Toronto Regional Manager of the Oil & Gas Group. Bruce Henning VPt, Energy Regulatory and Market Analysis, ICF International Bruce Henning has worked in the area of natural gas and energy economics for 31 years, specializing in natural gas markets in Canada and the United States. Mr. Henning has testified before the National Energy Board of Canada, the Ontario Energy Board, the Manitoba Public Utility Board and the Nova Scotia UARB. Mr. Henning also testified before the United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on the relationship between gas and electric markets in California during the California Energy Crisis and the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs on the impact of the Enron bankruptcy on electricity and gas markets. Mr. Henning has also testified before FERC, with his work cited in FERC Order Nos. 637 and 637-a and the FERC’s Fact Finding Investigation of Potential Manipulation of Electricity and Natural Gas Prices in Western Markets. Mr. Henning was the principle author of Natural Gas and Energy Price Volatility prepared for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Mr. Henning and his colleagues provided the quantitative modeling for the American Gas Foundation study, “Natural Gas Outlook to 2020: The U.S. Natural Gas Market – Outlook and Options for the Future.” In addition Mr. Henning and his colleagues authored the series of analyses of gas industry infrastructure requirements performed for the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) Foundation including the most recent update that included analysis of natural gas liquids and unconventional oil in North America. Mr. Henning served as the Chief Economist for the American Gas Association. In his 15 years at AGA, he was responsible for economic analysis of gas utility regulation and FERC pipeline regulation, short and long term energy and economic forecasts and modeling, and the statistics publications and analysis of AGA. He was a member of the FERC Pipeline Competition Task Force and the NARUC Technical Advisors Groups for Gas Integrated Resource Planning. He has served as an instructor for Gas Rates Fundamentals at the University of Wisconsin and Advanced Ratemaking for Gas Utilities at the University of Maryland. Mr. Henning received his B.S. in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completing his thesis under Robert Solow, Nobel Laureate in Economics. |

Andrea Horwath Leader, Ontario NDP MPP for Hamilton Centre, Andrea Horwath was elected leader of Ontario’s New Democratic Party on March 7, 2009. She is the first woman to lead the Ontario NDP and only the second woman in history to lead a major party in Ontario. Ms. Horwath was first elected in a by-election in the former riding of Hamilton East in May, 2004. Prior to her involvement with provincial politics, Ms. Horwath served as the City Councillor for Hamilton’s downtown ward and was first elected municipally in 1997. Ms. Horwath’s has been a community activist long before her political career. She worked closely with the Hamilton labour movement, providing literacy, numeracy and ESL training for workers and serving as a community organizer at a local legal clinic. In recognition of her work in the community, Ms. Horwath received a Woman of the Year Award in 1997 from the Hamilton Status of Women Committee. In April 2012, Equal Voice, a non-profit, multi-partisan organization dedicated to electing more women to all levels of political office in Canada, honoured her with the 2012 Equal Voice Award. Tim Hudak Ontario PC Leader, MPP for Niagara West-Glanbrook Tim Hudak was born and raised in Fort Erie – a small border town on the Niagara Peninsula – to his loving parents, Pat and Anne Marie, both of whom were teachers. Tim put himself through university working as a Customs Officer at the Peace Bridge, and earned an Economics degree from the University of Western Ontario. He was subsequently awarded a full academic scholarship to the University of Washington where he obtained his Master of Arts in Economics. After graduation, Tim traveled across the country as part of a management team that helped a major international retailer grow its operations throughout Canada. Tim’s motivation to enter politics started in the early 1990s when, like most of Ontario, his hometown was having a tough time. Families were leaving to find opportunities that were no longer available at home. Tim was first elected as an MPP in 1995. He subsequently served as a Cabinet Minister for five years in three economic portfolios from northern development and mines to tourism to consumer and business services. In opposition, Tim served as Finance Critic for four years before he was elected Leader of the Ontario PC Party in June 2009. In the recent provincial election, Tim led the Ontario PC Party to its biggest election gain in seats since the 1995 election. Tim lives in Wellandport in his riding of Niagara West-Glanbrook where he makes it a priority to spend as much time as possible with his family – his wife Debbie and, the light of his life, his daughter Miller. In his spare time, Tim is an avid student of economics and Canadian history. He remains deeply attached to the Niagara countryside of his youth and enjoys mountain biking, outdoor cooking and kayaking on the Welland River near his home. Sam Mantenuto Northland Power Sam Mantenuto is Chief Operating Officer, Chief Development Officer, and member of the Executive Office of Northland Power. Mr. Mantenuto joined Northland Power in 1998 after 17 years with Ontario Hydro. Stephen Somerville Competitive Power Ventures (“CPV”), Inc., VP Stephen is a Vice President with Competitive Power Ventures (“CPV”), Inc. CPV is a U.S. based greenfield development, asset management and transaction execution company focused on the North American power generation market. CPV’s Canadian headquarters are located in downtown Toronto. Stephen oversees all of the company’s natural gas fired generation and natural gas pipeline as well as wind development activities in Canada and is responsible for all government/public relations activities in the country. Stephen is a key member of the team developing over 1,600 MW of natural gas fired generation in Ontario, as well as developing the assets from the recently acquired wind development portfolio of Interwind (formerly known as SkyPower), a Toronto-based renewables development company. This portfolio stretches across Canada, with wind development projects in seven provinces. Prior to joining CPV, Stephen was a member of the Probyn & Company and Clean Power Income Fund team responsible for business development, acquisitions, "Requests For Proposals", and monetizing the "green" attributes of renewable energy facilities owned and/or operated by The Probyn Group. Stephen was also part of the successful bid team for the 99 MW Erie Shores wind project in Ontario. He also played a significant role in the August 2006 Renewable Energy Generation Limited ("REG") acquisition of AIM PowerGen Corporation, a leading Canadian wind project developer. He represents CPV on the Board of Directors of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario (formerly, IPPSO) and was a participant in the IPPSO Taskforce on Distributed Generator. Will Stewart Navigator, Managing Principal Will Stewart is a senior strategic consultant who has led project teams on complex files in a broad array of sectors for a wide variety of clients. A regular speaker and strategist on the energy sector, Will is a Principal of both Navigator Ltd and Ensight Canada. He has provided strategic planning, research and communication advice to many of the leading firms in the energy sector, as well as government, trade association and not-for-profit clients with interests in the industry. Will is also a skilled advocator at both the federal and provincial government level, winning significant victories for clients in financial services, health care, education and the arts. Jerry Vaninetti Sr. Vice-President Transmission, Renewable Energy Systems Mr. Vaninetti, President of RES Canada Transmission and Sr. Vice President of Transmission for RES Americas, is responsible for RES’ transmission functions throughout North America. He is a 40 year veteran of the North American power industry, specializing in transmission development since 1999. His employment history includes 10 years with a utility, 8 years in energy transportation, 9 years as a management consultant, and 13 years in project development. He is a regular speaker at transmission development venues and stakeholder events and is managing RES Canada Transmission’s efforts to be designated by the OEB to develop the East-West Tie Line in Northwest Ontario in partnership with MidAmerican Transmission. John Wolnik President, GSA Energy Company Inc. John has worked in the natural gas industry for 35 years; he has worked for Union Gas and Westcoast Energy in various departments including Engineering, Operations, Gas Purchasing, Storage Development as well as Business and Project Development. As President of GSA Energy and an Associate of Elenchus Research Associates, for the last 5 years, John has acted as a consultant to many North American companies in the areas of regulatory support, natural gas service assessments, contract negotiations, underground storage development, market analysis, asset valuation and project management. He has provided support for APPrO in a number of OEB and NEB related activities. He has also worked for a number of gas generators in assessing the transportation and balancing service requirements for new gas-fired generation. Anthony A. Zlahtic Director, Commercial Services, Capital Power Corporation Anthony joined Capital Power Corporation in July 2009. He is responsible for the development and acquisition of power generation assets in eastern Canada and the commercial management of the Company’s Ontario generation facilities. Capital Power, headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta owns more than 3,300 megawatts of power generation capacity at 16 facilities across North America. An additional 487 megawatts of owned wind generation capacity is under construction or in advanced development in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario. Anthony has 28-years experience in the energy industry having worked for the Union Gas Limited and Enbridge family of companies EPCOR Utilities Inc. prior to joining Capital Power. His experience is mainly in project development and commercial management of natural gas – pipelines, storage and LNG receiving terminals and wind power generation facilities. Notably he has been involved in the Empire State Pipeline, Alliance Pipeline, Vector Pipeline, Rabaska LNG natural gas infrastructure projects and the Kingsbridge II, Halkirk and Port Dover and Nanticoke wind projects. He is currently responsible for the development of the 105 MW Port Dover and Nanticoke Wind Project which has obtained a Feed-in Tariff Contract from the Ontario Power Authority and a Renewable Energy Approval from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. He has provided evidence and testified before the Environmental Review Tribunal, Ontario Energy Board, National Energy Board and the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He currently serves as a Director of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO) and is an elected member of the Ontario Caucus for the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA). Anthony obtained a Bachelor and Masters of Arts in Economics from Laurentian University and the University of Waterloo, respectively. He currently resides in Toronto. |
